CYNTHIA PORTER

Bio


Cynthia Porter’s work has won numerous awards including a fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts; two fellowships as well as an SOS grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. She was a resident artist at Dieu Donne Paper Mill Inc. New York, NY; Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, CA; Delaware Center of Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE; San Diego State University, San Diego CA and Altos de Chavon, La Romana, Dominican Republic. Her work has been exhibited locally and nationally. She received a BFA from Boston University. She has taught at various institutions in the Philadelphia area including Tyler School of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, University of the Arts and Philadelphia University. She is a co-founder of Mara Fiki Arts, a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia and Kenya, in addition to being active in numerous other community based art projects and initiatives. She lives and works in Philadelphia.
